Tajmeallover Returns A Winner

Showing no signs of rust from a three-month layoff, Alberta's 2016 Horse of the Year Tajmeallover picked up where she left off: winning races against the western provinces' top pacing mares.

Favoured in Century Downs' $10,000 Fillies & Mares Open Pace on Saturday (April 15), Tajmeallover was making her first start of 2017 against fillies and mares competition as her previous start in January at Northlands Park came against male and female counterparts. With regular pilot J.F. Gagne at the controls, Tajmeallover sat off the early pace as Mach Away (Rod Hennessy) and Skade (Brandon Campbell) took turns on the front end before Skade settled on top and fronted the field through a :29.3 opener.

Remember Terror (Mike Hennessy) started a first-over bid in front of the grandstand and applied pressure through a :58.3 half, with Tajmeallover unhurried and sitting sixth. Gagne eventually moved Tajmeallover to the outer flow as the field hit three-quarters in 1:27.3. Starting to move three and then four-wide around the final turn and into the stretch, Tajmeallover powered past the pacesetters for a half-length decision in 1:57 over Remember Terror and Skade.

The win for Tajmeallover (Tajma Hall - Watch Over Me) was the 30th lifetime and pushed her career bankroll to more than $215,000 in 54 lifetime starts for trainer Marjorie Dumont and owners Gagne, Peter Van Seggelen, Carl Warnaar and Tapron Holdings Ltd. of Alberta & B.C.
