Youth Camp Horses On The Move

Forget the calendar...forget the time change...and especially forget the groundhog. Spring officially arrives when the Harness Horse Youth Foundation’s Trottingbreds leave their winter home at Brittany Farms in Versailles, Kentucky and head to the stables of their spring conditioners.

This year five Trottingbreds have been shipped to Delaware. CDs Miss M is with the Jim King Jr. Stable; Imas Hit is with the Nick Callahan Stable; Royal Attire is being trained by the Eddie Dennis Stable; LR Trixie is being put through her paces by the Andrew Stafford Stable; and stable newcomer I Want Another is with the Art Stafford Stable.

Jandis Tuff As Sky has shipped to the Kristin Shetler Stable in Indiana, and stable diva Sweet Karen will again be trained in Illinois by the Nick Giberson Stable. Giberson, along with his family, received the 2014 HHYF Service to Youth Award for their outreach work with Karen within the local community.

“Our horses must be in excellent physical condition to handle their hard work all summer,” said HHYF Executive Director Ellen Taylor. “We could not possibly do the programs we do without the voluntary assistance from our trainers each year. We are continually appreciative of Brittany Farms and their caring staff for providing an off-season home for our horses for the past decade or more.”

The trainers will work with the horses for about two months before the HHYF camp season begins at Minnesota’s Running Aces Harness Park on June 8-9. For a complete camp schedule, click here.
