Canwood jogged to a front-end victory in 1:56.2, the fastest this year by a three-year-old filly on a five-eighths-mile track on Wednesday, April 12 at The Meadows.
The victory was Canwood’s second straight series win, as the win was in the Princess Pablano Trot for three-year-old fillies at the Meadows. Miss Da Line earned her second straight series win in the other $15,000 division.
Canwood zipped right to the lead from Post 5 for Brian Zendt and easily turned back the first-over challenge of Criteria. The pocket-sitting Bridal Suite was second while Kannections Honey rallied for show. Bill Zendt conditions the daughter of Camwood-Hallywood for Judith Wolkomir and Fred Kayne.
Miss Da Line was bottled up along the cones until the final turn when trainer/driver Ray Paver was able to angle her outside. The daughter of Muscle Massive-Sister Kate overpowered the leader, Massive Risk, and downed her by three quarters of a length in 1:58, which matched her career best. Long Driveway finished third. Harry Horowitz and Iris Horowitz bred and own Miss Da Line.
Wednesday’s card also featured the track’s top trotters in a pair of events. In the $20,000 Winners Over $10,000 Life/Preferred Handicap, Barn Girl made it three straight when she held off Flowers N Songs by a half-length and triumphed in 1:55.1. Aaron Merriman drove for trainer Bill Bercury and owner Renee Bercury. The five-year-old daughter of Cash Hall-Turquoise Sweetie now has won 33 of 67 lifetime starts.
In the $18,000 Preferred Handicap, Call For Justice extended his winning to five with a front-end promenade in 1:53.2 for Dave Palone, trainer Ron Burke and owners Burke Racing Stable and Weaver Bruscemi LLC. The pocket-sitting Tricky Nick was second while TSM Photo Bugger raced well first over for show.
