Delcrest Massy went to the front and didn’t look back en route to a handy score in Thursday’s $11,000 Preferred 2 Handicap for trotters at Flamboro Downs.

With Nick Steward at the controls, Delcrest Massy sprinted to the top from Post 4 and carved out splits of :28.1, :59 and 1:28 before stepping home in :30.3 to win by 2-1/2 lengths over Seeyou Men in 1:58.3. Taking home the show dough was Allies Gift.

Victor Puddy trains the five-year-old son of Muscle Mass-Armbro Balandra for owner Keith Cassell of Smiths Falls, Ont. The gelding improved this year’s record to 2-1-2 from six starts with the winning effort. The 14-time winner has banked in excess of $170,000 to date.

Earlier on the card it was Raising Richard turning in a wire-to-wire performance in the $7,500 Preferred 3 for trotters.

Paul MacKenzie hustled the gelding to the lead from Post 3 and together they led the field through fractions of :28.4, :59 and 1:28.1 before using a :29.4 closing panel to seal the deal by half a length in 1:58. Azucar rallied from first-over to be a lapped-on second, with third prize going to Tortola Sunrise.

Ed McHale trains the five-year-old son of Deweycheatumnhowe-Raising The Bar for 2099551 Ontario Inc and John MacMillan. It was the first triumph of the season for the 21-time winner who lifted his lifetime earnings past $130,000 with the victory.
