Going into Monday, the North American driving dash title rested with Aaron Merriman and his 155 wins on the season. But with Merriman's plans dashed due to unsafe conditions at Northfield Park, driver Corey Callahan took advantage.
Callahan, who has been the meet leading-driver for six straight seasons at Dover Downs, made the winner's circle seven times on Monday (March 9). One of the wins came guiding Spin Vision to her fifth straight win in the $14,000 Winners-Over Filly and Mare pace.
Spin Vision enjoyed a perfect two-hole trip behind McArma and Vic Kirby, who cut out the early fractions. Callahan pulled Spin Vision out after the field reached the stretch and the Leigh Louthan-homebred stormed home in :26.1 for victory. McArma held on for second with Yanklet Hanover (Tony Morgan) closing fast for third. Spin Vision, the only three-year-old in the race, is a complete Louthan product. No Spin Zone is the stallion. Davids Art is the dam. Louthan owns both. Spin Vision has now won eight of 16 races with four seconds and earnings of $72,345.
Callahan also drove public-choice Fashion Showdown to victory in 1:54.2 in another $14,000 female co-feature. It was the Village Jolt-Catch The Show mare’s third win in her last five starts. Megginspin (Allan Davis) was second with Hit By Lightning (Trace Tetrick) third.
With the seven-win performance, Callahan edged past Merriman with 156 wins on the season. Ronnie Wrenn Jr. sits just back of these two with 150 wins. All three drivers will be back in action (weather permitting) on Tuesday.
In addition to Callahan’s seven winning drives, Jim Morand, Jonathan Roberts and trainer Trish Foulk and Foulk Stables also had doubles on Dover's Monday card.
Bettor And Bold, last week’s winner, takes on Just Bettor and PL Hoofhearted in the Tuesday $20,000-$25,000 Claiming/Handicap feature race.
