Liberal MPPs To Be Targeted In Home Ridings on Friday, March 30
Headcounts are Critical, Please Step Up For The Horse Industry

Liberal MPPs in Ontario are being targeted on Friday, March 30 in an extremely critical concentration of rallies orchestrated by the Ontario Horse Racing Industry Association (OHRIA).

Set for the local constituency offices of many Liberal Members, these events represent our best chance to reinforce the devastating affect closing the Slots at Racetracks program will have on their particular communities.

It’s imperative to our cause that we turn out in force for these events on Friday, so we can influence these politicians before the vote on the Ontario Budget. They need to see the faces whose livelihoods they are negating, not only in the horse racing and breeding industry, but within the wide-ranging economic cycle that our business sustains.

If you’ve been wondering what more you as an individual can do, the ball is now in your court.

Just show up — with your friends and families — it’s the most important thing you can do right now for horse racing, and for the whole Ontario horse industry!

If you need more information, the Riding Office addresses and the Co-ordinators of the individual rallies are listed below:

I suggest telling the OLG to get there slots out of the racetracks if they want to break there deal with the Horsemen and Women. Why let them be there.Maybe there is a way to bring in a different corporation. The tracks are a good venue for slots.

In reply to by Bluewater2012

Perhaps Great Canadian Gaming would be interested in owning the slots at the racetracks in Ontario!!! Horsemen and women and Track Owners and Municipalities should get together and see if they can strike up some sort of deal with Great Canadian Gaming, after all the slot parlours are already built! In all probability, this Liberal Government would refuse another company a gaming license, after all this dictatorship closes down any business that competes with the OLG. eg., Shut down Fort Erie, Windsor, and Hiawatha to try and force slot players at these facilities to go to the Gov't owned Casinos at Windsor and Niagara, which are currently loosing money, right?

I wonder how many years it will take before the Fiberals realize (even if they don't admit it) this was the biggest screw up they have done so far. Great Business sense this Gov't has. Hand over billions of dollars to E-Health and ORNGE, with no accountability required on the receiver's part, then shut down a money maker like the Slots at Racetracks program, with a guaranteed annual profit in excess of 1.1 billion dollars, on a gamble that the gov't MIGHT be able to show a profit in 2017. Now I ask you, show me one business that the Government got involved in that ever made money. They could screw up the Lord's Prayer. Need more money eh Mr. Duncan? What other disastrous scheme have you in mind for the tax payers money, and it will be the taxpayers dollars who now subsidize your other ridiculous get rich quick schemes, because you have ended your most successful partnership with the Horse Racing Industry of Ontario.

Interestingly today, I received a notice/flyer from our federal MP Barry Devolin, which shows Federal Transfers to Ontario.

It states:
Ontario will receive record high support through major federal transfers in 2012-13 totalling $19.2 billion - an increase of nearly $8.4 billion (or 77%) from that received in 2005-2006. This long-term support helps ensure Ontario has the resources needed to provide essential public services.

Now, I am really curious. Where in hell is all this money going.
- You state you need to cancel the Slots at Racetracks program in order to get the horsemens/womens share of the revenue sharing agreement in order to pay for health and education. $19.2 billion Federal money to provide essential public services!!!!
- The Horsemen/women's share is 172.5 million dollars a year, which you will not get after March 2013.
- You now propose to build two new Casinos with God only knows how many more billions of taxpayers dollars, and very probably no accountability
- With no annual income from the cancelled Slots at Racetracks program for the next 4 years, 2013 - 2017.
- Already showing a loss of approximately 5 billion, on a gamble that you MIGHT show a profit of approximately 750 million in 2017????

You sure must have flunked math miserably in school, because you are already receiving over 1.1 billion/year from your share of the slots at racetracks program, and are trying to tell Joe Public, that 172.5 million is going to fund Ontario's Health and Education programs!

With this Liberal Government getting more - 77% more - in transfer payments from the Federal Government, (and the Feds are still able to substantially reduce their deficit), yet this gov't is unable to balance anything. This is infuriating. You should all be ashamed of running such a scam on the people of Ontario. You sure didn't make any mention of the 19 billion dollars you are receiving from the Federal Government in transfer payments when you presented your budget! SHAME, SHAME, SHAME. I don't know how you can stand to look at yourselves in the mirror each morning! If you had any morals at all, you would be hanging your head in shame for the terrible way you have in the past and continue to bleed the working people of Ontario, under the guise of balancing the budget.

Once again, I urge all readers to go over each SC posting VERY CAREFULLY and contact each and every NDP members and the head NDP leader ( Ms. Horvath.)

The NDP party is the one to contact, as it looks like Tim Hudak and company are going to stand by us by voting out the Budget.

By going to each posting, no phone numbers (or addresses) will be missed.

We need the opposition to step up and put forth a non confidence motion.
It's time to give the Liberal government a reality check.
At the same time it will show if in fact the official opposition is serious about the people's concerns.

if you sense that a quick election is possible...

then one key idea might be to lean on horvath and hudak to push for one,,and workover those 5 turncoat scarborough liberal mpps who were conspicous by their silence on the Mayor Ford's subway vs LRT battle (these five mpps, which includes two ministers, finally showed up with an empty token joint letter...WAY TOO LATE)

IM A SCAROROUGHARIAN and this subway stuff is still stinging..

might be an in for the opposition to exploit, if their hearts are in it.

The number to call to voice your concern over the bidget and the horse racing is as follows 1-855-ONT BDGT ( 1-855-668-2348 ) We all need to call the NDP make sure they have heard what 60,000 people sound like !

The NDP want to hear from the people regarding this budget. Every person involved should be calling them today ! The NDP have said they want to hear from us by phone so here is the number we all need to call # 1-855-ONT BGDT ( 1-855-668-2348 ) WE NEED TO MAKE OUR VOICES HEARD !

We NEED to let the Liberals MPP hear our story and tell them loudly!! Maybe they only know one side....McGuinty's and Duncan's version. It will not be time wasted.

I agree with Carolyn.Let's identify the NDP MPP"S and get emails, letters and visits organized. After the two gatherings we had at Queen's Park I feel certain the PC's are with us but there were only a couple of NDP members who spoke to help us.So let's try to make ALL the NDP members aware of our crisis.

It isnt like you are going to have any Liberals vote against their own budget.

I dont get why these rallies are at Liberal only headquarters.I would think the NDP would be where the targets should be. The Liberals have shown their hand, The Conseratives voiced their postion. Its the NDP who holds all the cards right now.

After Andrea Horvath's statement during her post budget interview, sounds like we should be visiting NDP MPPs offices. Andrea Horvath says she wants to hear from the people before she makes a decision on whether or not to support this budget. Let's make sure all the NDP MPPs including their leader, hear from the horsemen and women of Ontario before the vote on Thursday! If she supports this budget to end the Horse racing industry of Ontario, I hope and pray, that she and her party pay along with the Liberals in the next election, albeit, in four years, it will be too late for us!
Big Surprise though, if she goes against the CAW, OPSEU, OFA and CUPE members, as the NDP platform has always been supported by the Unions, and now she is saying she is not sure whether or not to support them................

Given the PC Leader has already announced he is recommending the Progressive Conservative MPPs vote AGAINST the budget ... doesn't it make sense that we target the NDP MPPs - to try to convince them to follow suit????

I am happy to join our quarter horse people at the 'local' site in Ajax, at Liberal MPP Joe Dickson's headquarters. I hung around with Joe (more his brother Al) 30+ years ago - and have already gone to his office. He called me last Saturday, and we spoke at length. A Liberal MPP would have to be self-destructive to speak against the budget - dontcha think?

HOWEVER, it seems to me that if we were to go QUICKLY - and in numbers - to the few NDP MPPs ... we would be MUCH closer to our goal. Particularly so, given NDP Leader Horvath's statement today that here Members will be seeking direction from their constituents!!!

I'm just a small-time breeder/owner, and could be construed as being 'mutinous'. But I believe we have the bull by the horns NOW - TODAY. WE HAVE COMPLETE PC SUPPORT - LET'S GET THE NDPs and FINISH THIS!
