Fans ‘Riot’ At The Racetrack

It has been reported that a ‘riot’ took place at a racetrack this past weekend after on-track punters voraciously protested due to a winning horse getting disqualified.

News of the strange occurrence comes courtesy of an article by The Courier Mail that explains that racegoers became extremely unruly on Saturday, March 21 at Seoul Racecourse in South Korea.

The report states that Kim Dong Soo, the jockey of Race 2 winner Argo Wisdom, had weighed in 2.2kg light. Argo Wisdom was subsequently disqualified. According to the article, it was later determined that Argo Wisdom had the wrong saddle on when he raced.

Regardless of the reasons behind the scenes, the crowd at the track was not impressed. A good amount of racegoers congregated on the tarmac near the finish line. Fans attempted the get on the track to stop more races from being run. Police had to deal with the situation, which saw angry racegoers throw objects on the track.

The third and fourth races on the program had to be cancelled, and track officials later announced – in a move to calm the situation – that handicappers that had wagered on Argo Wisdom would be paid out.

Interesting comment Jim the seventies were awesome times at Blue Bonnets and like all sports in the big city they did not take kindly to losing something close to the heart especially a bet. Campeau who owned the raceways had what I thought was a great marketing ploy on his poorest wagering night Wednesday, you had to be in attendance each Wed and get a ticket click to get a chance at the homes he built and I think he also built the participants apt for Olympics. Any way it boosted his Wed night attendance and on that day he gave away the home it was the biggest attendance day that year at the track. I can remember as well one day at the a Track here in NB that an odds on was 20 lengths in front of the field he made a skip went on the run at the wire was set back to last 200 people did not show up and fill those seats for weeks. In any case sometimes those calls really hurt the business. When everybody in the place has a ticket on them What I like was the warm Chowder that BBR gave out after the last race on Wednesday cold winters nights. They had a great appreciation for taxi driver in those day at BBR and had night recognizing them see in how they brought so many people to the track. It was the only way I knew how to get there!

rioting..hmm

if you were around montreal blue bonnets in the 70's...there was one full fledged riot...and another mini, which i was there for...then a win photo didnt quite match the live racing action...hmmm...horse called Stuyvesant got rooked at the wire by someone high above in the Blue Bonnets judges stand....

well, the quebecers there didnt take too kindly to it....benches went flying on the main apron,,,one tv i saw smashed......the days of the Filions, benoit cote, jacques hebert and robert samson to name a few...

**one more from the day there at the beloved BBR....a sunday afternoon summertime promotion to give away a mobile home....draw after the 7th race ona windy day and lots and lots of losing ballots went flying after the draw.......hundreds of ballots that ended up alongside and in the homestretch at BBR...and as they turned for home...a gust got the tickets whipping up cuasing tornadic reaction...spooking a couple horses including yves filion's count clay.....needless to say, inquiry signs all around....and fans up in arms,,but as far as i can remewmber never rioted there...(((though, there was never another mid card giveaway with paper ballots)
