Flamboro Hosts Final 'Idol' Round

The final round of Flamboro Downs' Announcer Idol was held on Sunday night with Y108's Scott Penfold taking the mic for the evening's third race.

Penfold called the action as Best Risque and Billy Davis Jr. established the lead over the Anthony MacDonald-driven Moment To Cherish and raced by fractions of :28.1, :58.4 and 1:28.2.

"It's still Best Risque," said Penfold as the horses entered the home stretch. "But here she comes, getting really, really close, we've got Moment To Cherish coming up to the front spot. It looks like Moment To Cherish just taking it by a hair, literally...And very close for second was Best Risque and Bayamastar."

Six-year-old Grinfromeartoear mare Moment To Cherish earned her second win of the season in 2:00.2 for trainer Duncan Brewer, who also co-owns with Kimberly Huson of Dundas, Ont.

"I don't know how this guy does this every day, but wow, my hat's off to you buddy," said Penfold after the race with regular track announcer Gary Guy by his side in the booth.

Fan voting will determine the Announcer Idol winner, who will receive a donation to the local charity of their choice, courtesy of Flamboro Downs and Great Canadian Gaming. Voting starts on the Flamboro Downs website on Monday, March 24.

Sunday's $7,000 Preferred 3 Pace was won by the Isabelle Darveau-trained and owned Astute ($13.10). Driver Robert Shepherd sent him after popular pacesetter Natural Habitat and prevailed by three-quarters of a length in 1:56.
