The Board That Was Fired

Published: March 23, 2010 11:06 am EDT

A track is projected to lose over $620,000 in 2010. It's the only track of its kind in the jurisdiction projected to lose money. The board that oversees race dates, trying to be fiscally responsible, awards the track three dates

of racing until a bill is passed that would that raise the track's pari-mutuel tax to half of what other tracks pay. If that bill is passed, the track will get 52 race dates.

The political representative for the track's riding decides to sponsor a bill to oust all 11 board members, stating the board was out of line. The bill passed 89-24 and now moved onto the Senate.
