According to a release from Hanover Raceway, due to an increase in racing at Pompano Park in Florida, racecaller Frank Salive will not be returning to Ontario

this summer.

Salive was the voice of racing at Hanover Raceway, Clinton Raceway and Woodstock Raceway last summer. He also helped fill in as a guest announcer at Grand River Raceway and Woodbine Racetrack, as well as other tracks, as needed.

Hanover Raceway General Manager Gord Dougan stated that it is a sad loss for the track's fans, who will not be able to hear the 'Velvet Fog' during his track's live Saturday cards of harness racing.

In regard to a replacement, Dougan said that Hanover and Clinton are now looking for a replacement.

Pompano normally ends its season in May, which accommodates for Salive's return to Ontario for the summer race season. Pompano has extended its race season until mid-July, and has helped Salive get his U.S. work papers so he can stay year-round.

Hanover will start its 2011 live race season on Saturday, May 7.

Frank's off duty commitment to his community and endless support of charity events was also outstanding. Thank you again Frank for being a genuine "partner in community safety" and for your contributions to safe communities - a secure Ontario. All the best my friend.

We were saddened to hear that Frank Salive would not be returning to Ontario. We recall Frank saying at one time that he always made sure he called every horse in the race at least once. Most owners we think when watching their horse race or watching the replay after the fact like to hear their horse's name called. Frank also always knew the "little guy". We will miss you giving the big wave or thumbs up from the announcer's booth when in the winners circle. Good luck, Frank. You are a class act. We will miss you!!

I've listened to race callers for over a half century. I've heard moast of them. For me the ultimate test is to close one's eyes and see if the announcer can allow to visualize what is taking place on the track. The two best I've ever heard are Sam McKee and Frank Salive.

Not just a great announcer but a person of intestinal fortitude.

To me Frank Salive is the best. He makes a race intresting and fun for all. I will miss frank! Good Luck Mr. Salive!!

Frank, Steve, Gigi have been a big part of maybe the best harness show available to Southern Ontario this winter...POMPANO PARK

I've been 'playing' and following it very closely this winter,,,,and for those who haven't, you've been missing some very competitive racing with solid payouts..And except for our inability up here to play your supers for a dime, really enjoy the wagering format, including the carryover Win 4's...

I was wondering where Quebec horsemen ended up going....so great to see Bardier, Lareau, Dessarault, etc.......of course, Doug Brown, Dan Clements down there too..

Florida gods Bruce Ranger and Wally Hennessey can never be overlooked...

Mike Micallef, Kevin Sizer, Chuck Connor Jr. and for
those who haven't had chance to play the G and A, the Napolitanos, Pavia and Mccomber before ,,,you've been really missing out.

Even Simon Allard went down to set a trotting track record!!....And dont forget about Delivered From Zin more of the same.

Frank its been a great a show so far and keep it coming...Terrific interviews all season incl. the cool one with Casie Coleman who was 'nice enough' to step out of the Poker Room long enough to chat....and please tell Gigi that she and her 'lovely' trackside guests have had heads turning up here in the cold north (though i think she could probably leave the pony picking mini pony and his handlers on the backstrech)...and obviously Steve Carpenito, like yourself, sharp as a tack with your insights..

Good luck with the 'extended' heat,,,,,the action on the track should be able to match it..

LONG LIVE 5/8TH MILE RACING (now all you need is a passing lane!)

When i think of great announcers it is a very short list of perhaps four or five people and i have been around the races for a lot of years. Frank Salive is on that list. One of my favorite announcers of all time. Ontario's loss is pompano's gain.
