Assigned Post 5 in the five-horse field, Phoos Girl grabbed the lead and cruised to a 1:59 wire-to-wire victory in the $10,500 Fillies and Mares Preferred 2 Pace at Flamboro Downs on Saturday, March 16.

The six-year-old Badlands Hanover mare led unchallenged through a :29.1 quarter and :59.4 half. Thrillonthebeach, sitting fifth, tipped first over at the half and ranged towards the pacesetter to apply mild pressure into a 1:29.1 third quarter. Phoos Girl continued unfazed rounding the final turn and strolled through the stretch to best Thrillonthebeach by a length while pocket-sitter Ride Away Shark settled for third.

Owned and trained by Danielle Neil, Phoos Girl won her fifth race from nine starts this season and her 24th from 99 overall, earning $142,567. Marc St Louis steered the $5.20 winner.

Southwind Ion also strolled around the track with St Louis in the bike to take the $8,500 Fillies and Mares Preferred 3 Pace. The odds-on favourite sped through fractions of :27.3, :57.3 and 1:25.4 as Mach Magic chased from the pocket and Howmacfiesty gave pursuit wide rounding the final turn. Southwind Ion maintained control to the wire to post a three-and-three-quarter length score in 1:56.1 over Howmacfiesty and Mach Magic.

A five-year-old mare by Sportswriter, Southwind Ion won her 16th race from 75 starts, earning $154,994. Craig Gilmour trains the $3.90 winner for owner Steve Mihalic.
