Jerseylicious Rises To The Top

Jerseylicious isn’t just back...she’s all the way back! The seven-year-old Western Ideal lass, who once was as feared as any older distaff pacer in the sport, captured the $22,000 Mares Open at Miami Valley Raceway on Friday night (March 10).

The Tim Lane trainee paced a mile in 1:52.3, despite sub-freezing temperatures, for driver Trace Tetrick, upsetting Safe From Terror (Chris Page) and Cast No Shadow (Tyler Smith).

Purchased by Emerald Highlands Farm primarily for her breeding value after a 2016 season with just 12 starts and two wins for $19,970 in earnings, Jerseylicious now has a half-dozen starts under Lane’s tutelage and has marched through the condition ranks with two wins and two show finishes before beating Miami Valley’s best.

Tetrick sent Jerseylicious ($14.40) directly to the front from post position seven, relented to Safe From Terror after the :27.3 first quarter, then waited through fractions of :56.2 and 1:25.1 before popping the pocket at the head of the stretch and sealing the deal with a :27.1 final panel.

It has been two years since Jerseylicious copped a race against Open class company, but the former distaff star triumphed in Miami Valley Raceway's Open Mares Pace on March 10 in 1:52.3. (Conrad Photo)

With just 82 lifetime starts, she now has accumulated $692,730 in earnings. Among her 21 lifetime wins are some in the game’s most prestigious events for older female pacers. She took her record of 1:50.1 at age four at The Meadowlands.
