A new 4-H Club has been created and several Standardbreds will be going to the fair and other 4-H events in 2018.
Armbros Revenge A, Allamerican Legacy, Combak Fox, Gold Chip Fellow, No Satin Intended (Butterbean) and Thank You Sam will be participating at 4-H events with Blazin’ Bridles & Buddies. They will be joined by other breeds in the group at the Pickaway County Fair and also at a weekend of demos at the Kentucky Horse Park April 21-22.
Recognition and awareness of the Standardbred as a first choice for a youth is growing. More are competing and competing well in the show ring. The breed is appreciated for their stamina, strength, willingness to please and their ability to maintain their composure in all kinds of situations and environments.
Adopting a retired racehorse benefits both the horse and the adopter. Not only are the fees to purchase much cheaper but the horses that raced or at least trained come with wonderful ground manners which make a great foundation for under saddle work. Breaking them to saddle is typically non-eventful and they are very quick learners to leg pressure and yields. They do seem to have a tendency to bond very fast with the youth riders which again make them a great first choice in horse ownership.
Not all Standardbreds can succeed on the track but they sure can off the track given the right circumstances. Education is the key to awareness and Blazin’ Bridles & Buddies will be promoting the breed by showing off their talents and versatility.
