The National Capital Region Harness Horseman's Association (NCRHHA) has announced that purses at Rideau Carleton Raceway are slated for an increase.

According to NCRHHA Director John MacMillan, purses are set for an increase effective Sunday, March 9. The full text of the letter is available below.

This important message for my friends racing at Rideau Carleton:

There are ongoing negotiations with government to improve our purse structure and stabilize our industry locally. Our situation is moving forward, but not as quickly as we would like. However, Jean Larose recognizes the immediate need for a purse increase. He has been granted approval by Rideau's ownership and Board of Directors for an increase starting Sunday March 9th. It will amount to roughly $500 more per race (perhaps some classes will increase more than others).

This increase is not government funding or revenue sharing. It is a direct contribution by Rideau Carleton far beyond any contractual obligation. All concerned are hopeful that further increases will be the result of a new government initiative and a sustainable profit sharing plan that more accurately reflects the horse racing industry's contribution to gaming and the overall economy in Ontario.

I would like to express my thanks to Jean Larose for his efforts and to Rideau Carleton for their continued support.
