Odds On Amethyst Mows Them Down

Odds On Amethyst was a sharp winner in come-from-behind fashion one week ago, and it was more of the same in Monday’s assignment in the $36,000 Preferred Trot at Woodbine Mohawk Park.

The gelding was in no hurry in the early going for co-owner/trainer/driver Pat Hudon, who got away seventh with Odds On Amethyst while Big Rich and P L Jill battled to the quarter pole in :26.3. P L Jill marched on and cleared before throwing down middle panels of :55.2 and 1:24.3.

P L Jill still had a comfortable lead as she wheeled the field into the lane, but before long Odds On Amethyst was travelling into that comfort zone. Sitting sixth heading into the final quarter of the contest, Hudon wheeled his charge wide and proceeded to storm home in :27.2. That was good enough to earn the veteran the win by 1-1/2 lengths over P L Jill in 1:53.1. R First Class saved ground throughout the mile and finished third.

Sent off at odds of 4-1, the nine-year-old son of Muscle Hill-Mystical Sunshine improved his 2020 record to 3-0-1 from eight assignments. The 37-time winner, who is owned by Hudon and partners William Cripps, Charles Gazzola and Adam Kean, pushed his lifetime earnings over $700,000 with the win.
