Third Time's A Charm?

If Glenn LeDrew's lucky number is three, the racing gods could be on his side for this Saturday's Western Regional Driving Championship at Fraser Downs in British Columbia

.

On today's episode of Trot Radio, Norm Borg talks to a true multi-tasker - Glenn LeDrew, who is not only the President of the Saskatchewan Harness Horse Association but is also that province's representative as the competition to crown Canada's National Driving Champion continues. This will be LeDrew's third trip to the Regionals and he looms as a serious threat with his 0.357 UDRS in 2010.

"What a lot of people don't realize is even though we race five months of the year out here, we only race for the most part one a week so our race meet is limited to about 24 race days a year."

On the topic of racing opportunities, the discussion shifts to West Meadows Raceway, a project LeDrew hopes will come to fruition with live harness racing in 2011.

"It's a place we're really looking forward to. We paid a lot of attention to the track, the dimensions of the track are the same as the Little Brown Jug in Delaware and as you're aware it's got nice wide turns and is considered to be one of the fastest half-mile tracks in the world....We're going to really focus on getting the people of Regina back out to the track."

When asked if there would be live racing, LeDrew sounded optimistic but not certain.

"We really hope so, we're ready to go, we're really just waiting on the final word from the government and we're more confident now than ever through the discussions we've had that there will be some racing out there this summer."

The full interview with LeDrew is available below. Please note that the opinions expressed in the following interview are those of the participant and do not necessarily reflect Rideau Carleton Raceway and/or Standardbred Canada.
