Delcrest Massy picked a great time to break the bridesmaid's curse on Tuesday night at The Raceway at Western Fair District, providing a healthy return to his backers and his connections.

Tuesday's feature race at Western Fair was the $11,000 Preferred 2 Trot, with the majority of attention in the six-horse field going to Allies Gift and Hldontghttoyurdrms. Undaunted, driver Nick Steward hustled 11-1 shot Delcrest Massy away stoutly and settled into second behind Hldontghttoyurdrms (Alfie Carroll). That WEG circuit ship-in carved out splits of :30.2, 1:01.1 and 1:31.1 on the engine before turning for home more than a length to the good over Euro Classic. Hldontghttoyurdrms held off that late bid to his right but couldn't hold off the pylon-skimming charge of Delcrest Massy, who got up by a neck to win in 2:01.1. Euro Classic (Per Henriksen) was three parts of a length back in third.

Since his last win 17 starts back on September 8, 2016 at Flamboro Downs, Delcrest Massy had finished in the runner-up spot eight times with another five efforts finishing third.

Trained by Vic Puddy for Keith Cassell, five-year-old Delcrest Massy (Muscle Mass - Armbro Balandra) now boasts 13 lifetime wins and more than $166,000 in lifetime earnings.

In the $8,300 Preferred 3 Trot, favoured Kennel Buddy (Travis Henry) made every call a winning one en route to a comfortable and dominant 2:01.1 score. The seven-year-old Ken Warkentin - Bernice Daniece gelding was two-and-a-half lengths better than Crown Classic (Henriksen) with Eternal Quest (Robert Shepherd) completing the triactor.

Dave Dowling trains and Allan Neal owns Kennel Buddy, now a 27-time winner with more than $235,000 in career earnings.
