Story Book Is On A Roll

Story Book has yet to write his last chapter, but his most recent one is a success story.

On Tuesday, February 10 at Monticello Raceway, the gelding notched his eighth consecutive victory (his win streak started on November 17 at Monticello).

The beginning of story starts with Cinderella, the dam of Story Book. Cinderella, who was a gritty mare in her own right, took her lifetime mark of 1:52.2 at age six. She retired with earning in excess of $250,000. Cinderella’s second dam was the top notch Most Happy Fella mare of yesteryear, Toy Poodle. “She was a Blue Blood in Michigan” Stalbaum told Monticello Raceway officials after Story Book’s win on Monday.

Stalbaum owned and trained Cinderella throughout her career. He was so impressed with her that he figured he would give her a shot and breed her to American Ideal.

Story Book raced his first lifetime start at Monticello as a two-year-old,” said Stalbaum. “We were offered good money for him and we sold him at the end of his two-year-old year.”

Stalbaum went on to say, “I saw where he was racing in Buffalo and was not racing too well, so I figured I would take a chance with him.”

For the month of February, first-race post time for Monticello’s Monday-through-Thursday schedule is 12:25 p.m. Monticello’s new Pick 5 wager spans Races 3 – 7.
