Western Fair Magic For McClure

Pilot Bob McClure showed up at The Raceway at Western Fair District on Tuesday, January 31 with drives in eight of the program’s 10 races. He started to roll in Race 4 and captured four consecutive dashes before closing out the card with his fifth win on the program.

Sent off at 30 cents on the dollar in Race 4, McClure sent six-year-old Shadow Play gelding Veroi Bayama to the lead by the half and went on to win by more than four lengths in 2:00.1. The Larry Johnson trainee did not let the off-going affect him, as he won convincingly over the ‘good’ track that was rated two seconds slow for the entire card.

McClure steered another odds-on choice to victory in Race 5, as he sent Paul Taylor pupil Windsun Cheyenne ($3.10) to the point from Post 3 and hung on for a neck victory in 1:58.2. The seven-year-old gelded son of Cams Cards Shark posted his second victory of the year with the Tuesday effort.

Switching things up, McClure surprised the Western Fair handicappers in Race 6, as he sent 9-1 shot Remus Blue Chip ($21.40) to the lead from Post 7 and made every pole a winning one. The nine-year-old Art Major gelding hung on for a head victory in 1:58.3 for trainer Len Lalonde Jr.

Back aboard a post-time favourite for Race 7, McClure launched a first-up attack with Sir Luck chestnut Acefourtyfour Alex ($4.20), and the four-year-old mare got up for a three-quarters-of-one-length victory in 1:57.4 for conditioner Gary Durbano.

McClure really punctuated his Tuesday five-bagger in Race 10, as he sent the odds-on Mike Weller student Micro Force ($2.90) to a massive victory in 1:58.4. The five-year-old gelded son of Skydancer Hanover started from Post 5, was on top by two lengths at the half, but poured it on from there on out. The bay was ahead by 13 lengths at the three-quarters pole, 18 lengths by the head of the lane, and cruised home for a crushing 14-length win.

Per Henriksen mapped out a perfect trip for Euro Classic in Tuesday’s $11,000 Preferred 2 for trotters at The Raceway at Western Fair District, and the veteran gelding parlayed it into a narrow score. To read a recap of the Preferred, click here.
