After celebrating a front-stepping score against Preferred 3 foes one week ago, Bestofthebunch took on – and triumphed - versus tougher foes in Monday’s $11,000 Preferred 2 at The Raceway at Western Fair District.

Sent off at odds of 5-1, Bestofthebunch was treated to a two-hole trip by driver Scott Coulter. They chased Kendal Gustav through fractions of :28, :58.4 and 1:28.1 before shaking loose in the lane and reaching up for a nose decision over the tempo-setter in 1:58.2. Third prize was earned by a lapped-on Champagne Phil.

Tim Myers trains the five-year-old son of Artistic Fella-Terinas Best for owner Boris Laus of South Woodslee, Ontario. The career winner of $127,092 is a 17-time winner to date.

Lyons Levi Lewis, whose claim to fame was his runner-up finish to Artspeak in the 2014 Metro Pace, turned a two-hole trip into a 1:59 triumph in the $7,500 Preferred 3 for horses and geldings.

Anthony Haughan tucked his charge into the pocket while Mister X sped through panels of :29.3, 1:00.2 and 1:29.2. Lyons Levi Lewis launched a late bid and used his :29.2 closing quarter to win by three-quarters of a length over his pacesetting – and heavily favoured - counterpart. The show dough was scooped up by Intrigued Intended.

Bruce Goit trains the four-year-old son of Well Said-Tongue In Cheek for Joseph Lyons Mound of Burford, Ontario. It was the fourth lifetime tally for the career winner of $427,960. He paid $7.40.
