Raising Richard Romps In Rideau Repeat

Going wire to wire as the 1-5 favourite, Raising Richard won again in the $8,550 Winners Over Trot at Rideau Carlton on Sunday, December 10 by seven-and-three-quarter lengths in 1:57.

In front through a :28.3 opening quarter, Raising Richard gradually expanded his lead, controlling by two through a :57.2 half and by three at three-quarters in 1:26.4. Turning for home six-and-a-half lengths in front, Raising Richard coasted clear of Jetcrest, who rallied off a rail trip for second, and Unabating, kicking off cover from second over for third.

Winning his 13th race in 33 starts this season and his 33rd in 108 overall, Raising Richard, a five-year-old gelding by Deweycheatumnhowe out of the Angus Hall mare Raising The Bar, races for owners 2099551 Ontario Inc and John Macmillan, and has earned $191,264. Trained by Edward Mchale and driven by Darrell Coville, he paid $2.60 to win.

Stonebridge Beach brushed to the top heading to three-quarters and held control in the final strides to win the $8,550 Winners Over Pace in 1:55.1 as the 6-5 favourite.

Positioned fourth, Stonebridge Beach sat off a :27.3 quarter contested by The Love Bug and new race-leader Wildcat Cam, who led the field through a :57.2 half. Stonebridge Beach moved first over into the second turn and cleared command through the backstretch, pacing to three-quarters in 1:25.3. He remained in front through the stretch, holding a three-quarter length advantage on Killer Thriller, who rallied from third to finish second, and Wildcat Cam finished third.

A four-year-old stallion by Mach Three out of the Beach Towel mare Asleep Onthe Beach, Stonebridge Beach, owned by 9096 9205 Quebec Inc and Meadowgem Farm Inc., won his sixth race in 29 starts this season and his 12th in 63 starts overall, accruing $376,130 in earnings. Trained and driven by Stephane Pouliot, he paid $4.40.
