Not even a first-over trip could keep Tendtowin out of the winner’s circle in Monday’s $7,000 Preferred 3 for pacers at The Raceway at Western Fair District.

With Alfie Carroll at the controls, Tendtowin got away third in the early going while Nothingbutmach fired to the lead and sliced out a :27.2 opener. He continued to lead the field through middle fractions of :57 and 1:24.4, and all the time Tendtowin was pressing the tempo from first-over.

Tendtowin eventually put away his front-stepping foe and used a :29.3 kicker to draw clear by a length in 1:54.3. Nothingbutmach held on gamely for second, while Apaches Cam tagged to finish third.

Joanne Pond trains the four-year-old son of No Pan Intended-Garden Gate Crème for Seaspray Stables Ltd of Nanaimo, BC. It was the ninth win of the year for the homebred, who is now a 21-time winner to date. The pacer has banked more than $50,000 this season and close to $100,000 in his career.
