Trafalgar Triumphs In Mohawk Feature

Four-year-old pacing mare Trafalgar lowered her lifetime mark to 1:52.4 in the Friday night feature, a $20,000 fillies and mares condition/optional claiming pace.

After racing in fifth through the first :56.2 half, driver Doug McNair sent Trafalgar on the attack and collared the pacesetting Casimir Swamp Girl (Colin Kelly) at the 1:25.1 third quarter mark. Closing out a career-best mile with a :27.3 final frame, she opened up a pair of lengths in the stretch and cruised under the wire clear of the late-closing favourite, Kickin Cowgirl (James MacDonald). Casimir Swamp Girl finished third.

Sent postward as the 3-1 third choice, Trafalgar paid $8.60 to win.

Carmen Auciello trains the Dali mare, who has earned her two seasonal wins and a pair of seconds while racing at Mohawk through the month of November, for owners Aaron Waxman of Carlisle, Ont., and New York's Fox Racing Inc. The Ontario Sires Stakes graduate is now a winner of five races and nearly $95,000 lifetime.
