Mach You And Me Takes Mares Open

With Paul MacDonell in the bike, Mach You And Me rallied from off the pace to win Friday’s $44,000 Fillies & Mares Open Pace at Woodbine Racetrack.

Hana Hanover (Randy Waples) was the quickest off the gate, but she yielded the early lead to Crystal Chris (Mario Baillargeon) at the first quarter station in :27. To Helen Back (Mike Saftic) took her turn on the front before Hana Hanover re-took the lead at the half-mile marker in :55.

As Blissful Smile (Jack Moiseyev) tipped out from fifth and surged to the front end, Mach You And Me started rolling from seventh. The four-year-old daughter of Mach Three was forced to go three-wide around Kg Katriona (Mark MacDonald) at the 1:22.4 third quarter mark and used a :27.2 final effort to prevail by two lengths in 1:51.2.

Crystal Chris, who was shuffled back to seventh, closed well for second. Blissful Smile was forced to settle for third.

MacDonell owns the Ron O’Neill trainee with the Carwin Stables of Orono, Ont. Mach You And Me equalled her lifetime mark with her 10th victory and lifted her bankroll to $527,619.

In other action, the four-year-old Apaches Fame gelding, Showmethefame, extended his win streak to seven with Mark MacDonald in the bike. The winner of $140,487 stole the show in his $16,000 claiming assignment posting a three and a half length win in 1:53.3 for trainer and co-owner Casie Coleman and owner Kenneth Fraser of Ayr, Ont.
