Amigo Loco Wires Up Preferred Foes

Published: November 11, 2013 07:55 pm EST

After failing to earn a cheque in last week’s Preferred 2 at The Raceway at The Western Fair District, Amigo Loco bounced back to get all the marbles in Monday’s $10,000 tilt.

Trevor Henry, who finished the day with a four-win performance, hustled Amigo Loco to the lead and the gelding successfully chopped out panels of :29.2, 1:01.3 and 1:32.2 en route to the 2:04 score. Talbotcreek Jewely was second best, with Natural Forces finishing third.

Andy Hardy trains the six-year-old son of Amigo Hall-Fathers Daughters for owner Timothy Varey of London, Ontario. It was the gelding’s eight the win of the season and the 14th of his career. The $5,000 payday boosted his bankroll to $133,990.

Lexus Helios used off-the-pace tactics to take home top prize in the $5,000 Preferred 3 for trotters. With Doug McNair at the lines, the mare rallied to win by 3-1/2 lengths over Sonny Vale in 2:03.4. Marlex Paid rounded out the Triactor ticket.

Sent off as the 6-5 favourite, the four-year-old daughter of Ken Warkentin-Lexus Hall found her way into the win column for the fourth time this season for owner/breeder/trainer Norm Dunstan of Caledon Village, Ontario. The 10-time winner, who is a graduate of the OSS program, has stashed away more than $207,000 in lifetime earnings.
