To say Paul MacKenzie was on fire to start the Thursday evening program at Flamboro Downs would be the understatement of the night.

MacKenzie was untouchable, in fact, as he swept the first five races on the 10-race program at Canada’s fastest half-miler.

The MacKenzie mastery started with Fantastic Flirt trotting to a 1:59.3 victory in the opener, and it was followed by a come-from-behind tally in Race 2 with At The Helm (1:59.1).

Hetties Commander was second-placed-first in Race 3, thus giving MacKenzie the natural hat trick to start the card. He tacked on wins with Macks Three (1:58.2) in Race 4 and Brave World (1:55.2) in Race 5 to complete his sweep of the first five races.

And in true Hollywood fashion, he closed up the card the way he started – in the winner’s circle. A tally in Race 10 with Brookdale Sonny (1:56.3) gave the veteran reinsman his sixth trip to victory lane.

The career winner of 8,461 races is closing in on $49 million in career earnings.
