Cartoon Daddy was a dozen lengths off the lead at the quarter pole in Thursday’s $2,200 feature at the Charlottetown Driving Park, but that didn’t stop the pacer from visiting victory lane.

Weekend Atnannies carved out first-half fractions of :27.3 and :57.4, but he gave way to Cartoon Daddy at the three-quarter pole in 1:28.4. Cartoon Daddy started his first-over bid on the way to the half, and after finding the front he drew clear to win by a length over Jeb in 1:59.2. Likely To Win was third.

Daniel MacDonald recently took over the training on the six-year-old son of Art Major-Ask Alice for partners William Andrew and Brian Andrew. It was the eighth win of the season for the 27-time winner who boasts a bankroll of $471,667.

Just a three-horse field went postward in the $1,950 Open Trot, and Dusty Lane Jacob swept the field to win in 2:01.4 for the tandem of driver Corey MacPherson and trainer Cynthia MacDonald.

Suicide Shift shot to the top and supplied fractions of :30, 1:01.1 and 1:31.4, but he couldn’t fend off the hard-charging Dusty Lane Jacob. The gelding fired home in :29.2 to win by 7-1/2 lengths over Suicide Shift. The show dough went to race favourite Frill Seeker.

MacDonald shares ownership on the six-year-old son of Nureyev-Starinthesky with Tanya MacKinnon. It was the fourth win from 19 starts this season for the career winner of $32,343.
