All Turain Stars In Red Shores Preferred

All Turain and driver Mike Stevenson held off a late-charging Cabo Pan Lucus to claim the feature event Saturday at Red Shores at the Charlottetown Driving Park. The time of the mile was 1:55.2.

Stevenson decided to go after the lead from post eight in the $2,400 Preferred and rallied the all-star pacer to the front, touching down on a hot opening quarter of :27.3 before a rated :56.4 half while the three-quarter marker flashed by in 1:26. Cabo Pan Lucas, under the command of Vince Poulton, took a shot at the fraction-setter, but settled for second with Astor completing the triactor for Jason Hughes. Hughes nailed the opening Daily Double on the program.

All Turain is owned by Lee Hicken of Charlottetown, P.E.I. and Perry Burke of Grosse-Ile, Que., and trained by Wade Sorrie of Montague, P.E.I.

The card also held two eliminations for the Maritime Breeders Stakes. Dusty Lane Galaxy and trainer/driver Gary Chappell won the opening division by 11 lengths in 2:01 while filly Incredibility broke her maiden in 2:03.3 in the next $3,000 split for driver Kenny Arsenault and trainer Earl Watts.

The veteran campaigner Abundaspin notched his 79th lifetime win for driver Harold Shepherd. The 14-year-old trotter is owned by Mikeala Lustic of Cornwall, P.E.I.

Stevenson and Walter Cheverie recorded two winners on the night.
