Flying at the end of the mile, Moonwriter and driver David Dowling were grinning for their photo in the featured pace on Saturday (Oct. 16) at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

Unhurried at the start, Moonwriter got away third in the $3,200 preferred pace and sat chilly for the duration before reaching up in the final strides to win by a neck in 1:55 for Dowling, trainer Colin Johnson and owner Debbie Element of Village Green. Second was Cowboy Logic (Steven Shepherd) with Screen Test (Corey MacPherson) completing the triactor.

Marc Campbell scored three driving wins on the afternoon opening up the action with Zack The Men (1:58.3) for trainer Michael MacDonald of Vernon Bridge, then won the Sonny Rankin Memorial in the fifth dash with Good Eye Hawkeye in 1:56.4 for Kyle Wilkie of Charlottetown. Campbell’s final score was aboard Bettim Again in a 1:55.3 mile from the George Rennison barn.

Wilkie had two training wins on the day as Three Truths (Hughes) remains undefeated in his stable after a 1:56.2 win for his second straight from as many starts.

Trainer Melissa Rennie and driver Adam Merner clicked for two wins on the day as Bridge Token put in a lifetime best performance of 1:56.2 in the second race while the Oliver and Sarah Poulton Memorial pace in the eighth was won by Jadensmagicsteel in a snappy 1:54.4. Merner also visited the winner’s circle catch driving Lornevalley Julian to a 1:57.2 win for Barry MacLeod of Cardigan.

Total wager was $61,078.
