Daylon Magician Resurfaces

After having not recorded a charted line since July of 2016, O’Brien Award winner Daylon Magician was in action during the Tuesday morning (Oct. 16) qualifying session at Woodbine Mohawk Park.

In rein to Jack Moiseyev, Daylon Magician, who is now 10, competed in the fifth of the session’s eight races. The track was rated as ‘fast’ for the session, but a two-second variant was attributed.

After having lined up in Post 4, the son of Kadabra was first to the lead and shot out to a five and three-quarter-length early advantage and froze the quarter-pole timer in :29.1.

Moiseyev and the bay kept up a steady pace through the second quarter, as they passed the half-mile pole in :58.3 before the final turn.

The career $1.9-million earner carried right along in the third quarter, as he trotted passed the three-quarters pole in 1:27.1 and ratcheted his lead back up to five and a half lengths.

The duo was in complete control through the lane, as they sealed the deal with a :30.3 final quarter en route to a six and three-quarter-length victory in 1:57.4.

From 81 career starts, Daylon Magician has recorded 32 victories, 10 second-place finishes and 14 thirds. The biggest victory of the Ontario Sires Stakes Super Final winner’s career came in the fall of 2011 when he captured the $1 million final of the Canadian Trotting Classic at Mohawk Racetrack. He would later go on to win the $170,000 Cleveland Trotting Classic in 2015.

Daylon Magician is owned by Daylon Farms Ltd, Komoka, Ont.
