Maritime Breeders Elims Contested

Charlottetown Driving Park hosted eliminations for the Maritime Breeders Stakes on Saturday, October 14, with four going for the two and three-year-old trotters.

Buckaroo went wire to wire as the 1-5 favourite in the Two-Year-Old Trot, winning by three lengths in 2:02.1. Buddy White, sitting third through fractions of :30.2 and 1:01.4, moved first over into the final turn to challenge the leader, but chased in second through the stretch. Majian Gilroy was 12 lengths behind that in third.

A gelding by Tad The Stud from the Keystone Nordic mare Buckling Banbury, Buckaroo, owned by Larry and Kathy Chappell, is trained and driven by Marc Campbell. He paid $2.30 to win.

Windmeredontuworry went wire to wire in the other Two-Year-Old Trot, winning by three-and-three-quarter lengths as the 1-9 favourite in 2:02.2. Oceanview Tadpole chased in the pocket as Windmeredontuworry posted clips of :30.2, 1:00.3, and 1:32.1 before kicking clear of his competition. A Pure Heart finished third.

By Armbro Barrister out of the Revenue S mare Ginternal Revenue, Windmeredontuworry, owned by Eric Johnston and trainer Terry Gallant, was driven by Gilles Barrieau. The colt paid $2.10 to win.

Pappy Go Go took the lead after the quarter and kicked away as the 1-9 favourite in the Three-Year-Old Trot, winning in 2:00.4. Oceanview Deb, losing the lead following a :31.1 quarter, chased in the pocket as Pappy Go Go posted splits of 1:01.1 and 1:31.2 before kicking away to win by four-and-three-quarter lengths. Majian Cash, 15 lengths back, was third.

A gelding by Tad The Stud from the Pegasus Spur mare Paging Willy, Pappy Go Go, owned by Grayland Farm, is trained and driven by Marc Campbell. He paid $2.10 to win.

Wicked Nick gained control past the quarter and held on narrowly in the other Three-Year-Old Trot elimination, winning by a quarter-length in 2:00.3. Miss Neala Ridge, losing the lead after a :29.3 quarter, rode the pocket as Wicked Nick posted fractions of :58.4 and 1:30.1 before beginning to falter in the stretch. Majian Tango, sitting fourth, moved wide around the final turn, reeling in the leader through the stretch to miss narrowly, while Hop Up surpassed the pocket-rider for third.

Owned by Peter Buchanan and Cameron Trail, Wicked Nick, a gelding by Tad The Stud from the Angus Hall mare Napanee Seelster, is trained and driven by Gary Chappell. He paid $4.50 to win.

Ramblinglily took the $2,250 Filly and Mare Open Pace in 1:58.1 going wire to wire. going fractions of :29.2, 1:00.1, and 1:30.1, the even-money favourite held a quarter-length advantage on pocket-sitter Itsallaboutthebass at the line, while Good Luck Kathy slid up the pylons to take third from a stalled outer flow.

A seven-year-old mare by Articulator out of the Drop Off mare Crafty Jewel, Ramblinglily, owned by trainer Allan Jones with co-owner Normand Leger, was driven by Ken Murphy and paid $4.10 to win.

Sweeping from first-over, Rose Run Quest gave Marc Campbell his third training win on the program, taking the $2,400 Preferred Pace in 1:55.1.

Sitting third, Rose Run Quest stalked fractions of :28.1, :56.2, and 1:25.3 set by Carracci Hanover on a loose lead. Drawing alongside the leader into the stretch, Rose Run Quest surpassed the pacesetter, holding the lead while Mick Dundee stormed down the center of the course from off cover into second. Carracci Hanover held on for third.

A five-year-old gelding by If I Can Dream from the Camluck mare Letmedowneasy, Rose Run Quest, owned by Blair Hansen, was driven by Marc Campbell and returned $6.00 to win.
