Ride Away Shark Upsets Preferred

Sent the longest shot on the board, Ride Away Shark ranged past pacesetter Sing Like An Angel and advanced to a two-and-three-quarter length victory at odds of 13-1 in the $10,500 Fillies and Mares Preferred 2 Pace at Flamboro Downs.

Driver Travis Henry placed to Scott McNiven trainee fifth as Sing Like An Angel barreled towards leader and odds-on favourite Rubis Prescott heading to a :27.3 opening quarter. Sing Like An Angel cleared control circling the far turn first time while Ride Away Shark angled first over and began her bid heading to a :57.1 half.

Ride Away Shark took over command past three-quarters in 1:26.1 and kicked to a two-length lead over second-up Dreamfair Eternity spinning into the stretch. Ride Away Shark maintained her margin heading to the line and completed the mile in 1:54.1 ahead of Dreamfair Eternity with Sing Like An Angel five lengths behind in third.

A six-year-old mare by Classic Card Shark, Ride Away Shark won her seventh race from 26 starts this season and her 22nd from 136 overall, earning $314,955. She competes for owners Kimberley McNiven and Thomas Brodhurst and paid $29.80 to win.

Traffic Jam and Travis Henry also powered first over to take the $8,500 Fillies and Mares Preferred 3 at 5-1 in 1:55.2. The four-year-old mare by Artiscape sat off a :28.1 quarter set by odds-on favourite Phoos Girl and pulled first over to a :58.1 half. Drawing closer but still two-lengths off the lead past three-quarters in 1:26.2, Traffic Jam drew alongside Phoos Girl into the stretch and slid to a length victory at the wire. Pocket-sitter Twice An Angel finished three lengths back in third.

Paying $12.90 to win, Traffic Jam won her third race in 15 starts this season and her seventh in 40 overall, earning $73,773. Martin Lachance trains for owners Lachance Racing Stable and Dragon Racing Inc.
