Big Rich Prevails In Preferred

Travis Henry put his foot to the floor with Big Rich in Thursday’s $11,000 Preferred 2 for trotters at Flamboro Downs, and the Richard Moreau rolled to narrow score in 1:58.

Big Rich charged to the top from Post 1 and carved out panels of :29, :58.3 and 1:28.2 before sealing the deal with a :29.3 closing quarter. He held on for the half-length score over race favourite Delcrest Massy, with Call Me Richard taking home third prize.

The four-year-old son of Donato Hanover-Kidman Hall is owned by 9099 3833 Quebec Inc of Sorel-Tracy, QC and Frank Spagnolo of Ottawa, Ont. The gelding is now 7-for-25 this season and 14-for-55 in his career. The $5,500 payday bumped his overall cash stash to $211,168.

Heavily-favoured Lexis D J was much the best in the $7,500 Preferred 3 for trotters despite suffering a wardrobe malfunction.

Bob McClure hustled the gelding to the lead from Post 1 and together they sliced out fractions of :28.4, :59 and 1:28.4 before cruising home in :30.3 to win by a length over Allies Gift in 1:59.2. Fashion Goddess came first-over and held on for a third-place finish.

Shane Arsenault of Freelton, Ont. owns and trains the nine-year-old son of Amigo Hall-Lexus Lulu. The 47-time winner went over $500,000 in lifetime earnings with the victory.
