Artistic Madison did all of the road work in Friday’s $30,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred Pace at Woodbine Mohawk Park, but it was her stablemate, Exhilarated, who pounced on her late and took home weekly bragging rights.
In rein to Chris Christoforou, Exhilarated sat a pocket trip behind Artistic Madison through fractions of :28, :56.2 and 1:24.2. Artistic Madison tired in the lane, and as she did she drifted off the rail allowing her stablemate to shoot through and post the 1:52.1 victory over Barockey. The race favourite, Witch Dali, was third.
Carmen Auciello trains the seven-year-old daughter of Mach Three-Animated Art for Auciello Stables of Stouffville, Ont. The victory was her 10th of the season and the 35th of her career. Over the last two seasons she’s faced the gate 86 times while manufacturing a 19-9-14 record. The victory pushed her overall cash stash to $565,730.
