Meet October’s Heart of Harness Racing Photographer

Sarah Lauren Scott of Milton, Ontario captured this gorgeous fall image of her four-year-old trotter Fork, which is featured as the October shot in our Heart of Harness Racing calendar.

Sarah became hooked on harness racing shortly after she part boarded a retired Standardbred at Joe Stutzman’s turnout farm in 1992. Since that time she has immersed herself in the industry. If you’ve raced anywhere in Ontario, chances are you may have crossed paths with Sarah as she’s worn many hats over the past 20 years. She was Vice President and Program Coordinator for the Ontario Standardbred Adoption Society, worked for Joanne’s Staking Service, was a WannaBet Customer Service Rep, a caretaker, and track photographer.

Photography has become one of Sarah’s favourite hobbies and something she’s quite passionate about.

“I’ve always enjoyed taking pictures of my horses,” Sarah explains. Sarah was the caretaker for Rocknroll Hanover, whom she called Rock, from almost the beginning of his two-year-old campaign, down to his final triumph in the Breeders Crown as a sophomore. “I have pictures that keep my memories alive of Rocknroll Hanover thanks to the many photographers that captured many cherished moments. Now, I try to do the same for other Caretakers. Behind the scene pictures are my favorites.”

Sarah now works at System Fencing, has a small business called SLS Browbands, and is the track photographer at Grand River one day a week. Horses wearing the unique browbands that she designs and creates include Captaintreacherous, I Luv The Nitelife, Uncle Peter, Mister Herbie, and Arch Madness.

Sarah also owns two retired Standardbreds. In 2001, she claimed Music Director, (winner of over $950,000) a horse she worked with years prior. He’s now 24 and is doing very well. She also has given a home to 12 year old gelding Prepare To Attack. When she’s not taking care of her horses, taking photos, or making browbands, she likes to dabble in decorating.

Sarah has a few things on her bucket list. Right near the top is buying a Rocknroll Hanover yearling.
