Art Of Arts made her Open debut a winning one as she rallied home off second over cover in the $12,500 top pace for fillies and mares on Sunday at Fraser Downs

.

The former Cal Expo claimer was purchased in early October last year by Sabrina Sine of Langley, B.C. and climbed the claiming and conditioning ranks at Fraser for trainer-driver David McKellar before recording her first win Sunday against Open company in 1:55.3.

The Power Of Art-Precious Butler N mare settled into fourth place off the gate and followed Mystic Maiden (Justin Currie) to the outside en route to the three-quarters mark. She rallied three-wide around the final turn and sprinted home in :29-seconds over the 'good' surface, which was rated one second slow, to win by three-quarters of a length over Mystic Maiden. Jennas Pass (Keith Clark) finished one length behind in third off a pocket trip. Just Fiction (Jim Marino) advanced from the backfield to finish fourth while Jans Rich Girl (Scott Knight), who carved out the race fractions of :28.1, :57.4, and 1:26.1, ended up fifth.

The 3-2 favourite paid $5 to win for the third consecutive time. The victory was Art Of Arts 13th lifetime and pushed her earnings to $61,003.

The Abbetross A Claiming Series continued on Sunday with Red Star Kash winning the lone $5,000 division for $5,500 claimers. Trainer-driver Tim Brown and the eight-year-old gelding got away fifth from a second tier start and advanced around the parked out co-favourite Rays Edge (Glenn White) down the backstretch. Red Star Kash then fought back when challenged by Hezadilly (Brad Watt) to win by three-quarters of a length in 1:56.3. Law Of Yukon (Grant Hollingsworth) finished third.

The son of As Promised out of Kassi Seelster paid $7.80 to win as the 5-2 co-favourite. The career winner of more than $200,000, who finished second in the first leg of the series, is owned by Sandra Brown of Langley, B.C. and Cyril McEwen of Coquitlam, B.C.

In between the feature events, the advancing Midnight Destroyer was interfered with by the Brown-driven Il Dolce and fell in an incident up the backstretch during the ninth race. Driver Kevin Anderson remained in the sulky and appeared to avoid injuries while the favoured four-year-old gelding was able to walk off the track under his own power. Il Dolce finished fourth, but was disqualified for causing interference to Midnight Destroyer as well as Thrill My Gorilla (Brad Watt).
