Following a three-wide move around the final turn Stolen Car wound up in the $35,000 Preferred winner’s circle while Rustys All In came on late to win the $30,000 Delaware Special and Catchmecullen A thundered home in the $23,000 Open Pace Thursday at Dover Downs.
A well-timed move by Ron Pierce heading to the final turn capped off by a :28 final panel was the difference in the week’s top pace permitting Stolen Car to kick off his 2013 campaign with a 1:51 victory. Joe Muscara owns the Mach Three-Ashlees Luck five-year-old trained by Jeff Clark. Cam B Zipper, an early leader for Corey Callahan, hung on to finish second in front of fast closing Southwestern Dream (Jim Morand). The win was the 14th lifetime for Stolen Car who now has won $231,099 in his career.
In the $30,000 Del. Special, Corey Callahan, trainer Mike Hall of the Doug Lewis Stable and owned Claim To Fame LLC combined for a 1:50.4 triumph, the fastest on the card, as Rustys All In, also owned by Carter Racing Stable, closed with a rush to lift his lifetime earnings to $410,439. Sunshine Superman was a strong second for Jason Lynch while Ron Pierce steered Mustang Art to a third-place finish.
Catchmecullen A, although with two wins, two seconds and two thirds in his last six outings was overlooked at 9-1 when Allan Davis sailed down the lane in :27.4 to win the $23,000 Open pace in 1:51.2 for trained John Parker and owners Josh Park and Nanticoke Racing. The Christian Cullen gelding posted his 33rd career victory and now has won $268,214 lifetime. Grand Seelster (Ron Pierce) and Im Fulla Luck N (Matt Kakaley) finished second and third respectively.
Corey Callahan and Ron Pierce each chalked up three winning drives. Vic Kirby, trainer Mike Hall and owner Claim To Fame LLC had two wins apiece.
