Tiempo Hanover made his season's debut a winning one in the featured $12,000 Open Handicap Pace on Sunday afternoon (Jan. 23) at Fraser Downs.

A six-time winner last year, the Jim Vinnell runner-up was back in action for the first time since mid-December.

Sent postward as the 3-5 favourite fresh off the layoff, Tiempo Hanover didn't disappoint his backers as he charged to the lead from post four and set fractions of :27.4, :57 and 1:25.1 en route to the 3-1/4-length victory in 1:53.4 for trainer/driver Brandon Campbell. Mach Steady (John Abbott) launched from third as the field turned for home and got up to nab second-place honours over the pocket-pursuing distaffer, Rockin Mystery (Rod Therres).

The victory was the 22nd lifetime for Tiempo Hanover, an eight-year-old gelded son of Western Ideal owned by Alberta's Jodi Loftus, Dana Shore and Raymond Henry. The lion's share of the purse lifted his bankroll to $210,100.

Tiempo Hanover paid $3.30 to win.
