While playing in a charity hockey tournament over the weekend, Nick 'Ralphie' Boyd scored a goal, but it came at a cost.

Boyd was charging hard to the net and, in order to avoid a collision with the goalie, he jumped over the goaltender only to hit the boards, hard.

Boyd sustained multiple injuries, including a dislocated shoulder, a chipped shoulder bone, fractured rib cage, and punctured lung.

One of the most popular drivers at Kawartha Downs each season, Boyd has been competing on the Woodbine Entertainment Group circuit during the off season with JRs Big Buddy, a Mister Big four-year-old gelding he’s training for Kawartha veteran Junior West of Orono.

JRs Big Buddy has been consistently picking up cheques and is into go tonight (Monday, January 23) at Woodbine Racetrack in Race 10. Boyd had been scheduled to drive but will have to sit this one and the next few out while his injuries heal.
