Alexi Couto, the official anthem singer of the CFL's Toronto Argonauts, will sing the Canadian national anthem at the 2019 O’Brien Awards Gala on February 1 at the Hilton Mississauga / Meadowvale Hotel.

Alexi is a 23-year-old singer-songwriter from Brampton, Ont. who started playing the piano at three years of age and has been singing for as long as she can remember. She wrote her first song at age 13 for her father and hasn’t looked back since.

Couto’s singing career took off in 2014 after winning the Canadian ‘Siren Song Search Competition’ with her song ‘Paradise’ which won her studio time with Canadian hip-hop icon Kardinal Offishall. Since then she has performed at many different stages across the GTA, including Yonge and Dundas Square and Nathan Phillips Square for the Huddle Up Bullying Prevention Program with Pinball Clemons and the Toronto Argonauts. She also had the opportunity to sing the Canadian and American Anthems prior to the inaugural Marner All-Star Invitational for the Marner Assist Fund. For the past two seasons, Alexi has been contracted as the official anthem singer for the Toronto Argonauts.

In 2016, Alexi released her single ‘Colour Blind’ worldwide to radio. Couto was inspired to write and compose the song in the wake of the terrorist attacks in Paris, and the music video for ‘Colour Blind’ aired on the Family Channel and YTV. Her latest single, ‘Fall’ was just released onto all streaming platforms this past October.

Along with her great musical gift, Couto has made a name for herself across the GTA as an active anti-bullying advocate, visiting select schools within the Dufferin-Peel Catholic School Board as part of her 'Conquer the Fear' Tour. The tour raises awareness about bullying and the injustices young people go through on a daily basis because of being different or unique.

Alexi is looking to put out new music this year, as well as continuing her advocacy for anti-bullying to the younger generation.
