Taking control early, Adkins Hanover advanced to a four-and-a-half length victory in the $2,400 Preferred Pace at Charlottetown Driving Park on Saturday, Jan. 19.

The Trevor Hicken-trained 10-year-old Western Ideal gelding grabbed the front form post four heading to a :29.4 opening quarter and slowed the pace to the half, timed in 1:00.4. Odds-on favourite Intended Royalty, sitting fourth, tipped first over to challenge the pacesetter approaching lap two but stalled in his pursuit passing three-quarters in 1:29.2. Adkins Hanover opened his lead turning into the stretch while Intended Royalty gave chase from second ahead of Tempo Seeslter third.

Owned by Perry Burke, the Adkins Hanover won his third race from four starts this season and his 44th from 200 overall, earning $251,040. David Dowling sat behind the $4.30 winner.
