Galvin Goes From Editorial To Poetry

Former executive editor of Trot Magazine Bill Galvin has been forced to increase production of his new self-published book, Ballads of the Turf and Other Doggerels, to keep up with demand

The resident of Mississauga, Ontario has sold 2,000 copies of his collection of ballads and poems based on true stories about horse racing, which is in its third print since its 2006 release.

"I had a lot of support from the racing industry," Galvin told The Mississauga News. "I always wanted to put them in a book, but I waited until I found a good illustrator. You could say it's a culmination of my life's work."

Galvin, who has spent his entire life around horses, worked with the Ontario Jockey Club for 20 years. He also served as director of publicity and public relations for the Canadian Trotting Association and was president of the North American Harness Racing Publicists Association. In addition, Galvin founded and co-ordinated the historic
revival of trotting races on Ottawa's frozen Rideau Canal in 1978 during the first year of Winterlude.
