Following two weeks of cancellations, live harness racing resumed at Fraser Downs on Friday night (January 12) featuring a $12,000 Open Pace won by Illwinifican.

Cool Cowboy moved between horses early on from the trailing tier post nine to take the lead and fronted the field of nine Open pacers through panels of :28.1, :57.4 and 1:25.4, but Illwinifican fanned wide off the cover of Lisplaced turning for home and swept by to score the 1:54.4 victory over a sloppy track by two and a half lengths. Royal Renegade closed inside from the pocket and edged out Cool Cowboy in a photo for second-place while Lisplaced settled for fourth. Favourite Buddy Weiser completed the top five finish order.

Illwinifican returned $6.80 to win as the 2-1 second choice in the wagering.

Trainer/driver Dennis Johnston and Ray Thomson co-own the six-year-old Allamerican Native gelding, who earned nine of his 21 career wins last year and now boasts a bankroll totalling $228,395.
