One Spot Open In Xtreme Harness Camp

Due to a late participant cancellation, Grand River Raceway has one spot available for its Standardbred Xtreme Adult Harness Camp.

The three-day camp is co-hosted by the Ontario Harness Horse Association and will provide participants with a unique, hands-on learning experience, in addition to classroom sessions with industry professionals and officials. Past participants in the camp were current, new and potential Standardbred horse owners.

Participants will spend two to three hours each day learning the finer points of grooming, harnessing, jogging, and shoeing.

The classroom agenda topics include: anatomy, basic care, horse health check, nutrition, horsemanship, stable management, conditioning, financials, fractional ownership and veterinary care.

The camp includes transportation, dinner and racing at Mohawk Racetrack on October 4, and a field trip to a local breeding farm on October 5.

The Standardbred Xtreme Camp will culminate with two live exhibition races on October 6 at Grand River, in which participants will be paired with a pro driver in a half-mile dash.

The inclusive cost for the camp is $300. The first eight people to sign up are guaranteed spots in the exhibition races.
